7 Podcasting Lessons: From Newbie to Know-It-All (Since Nov 2020)

Hey Creators,

It's been a wild ride since I hit "record" on my first podcast episode back in November 2020.

From fumbling with mics to landing gigs and building a knowledge base, podcasting has taught me a thing or two.

Here are 7 lessons I've learned along the way:

  1. Start before you are ready: Perfectionism is the enemy of progress. Don't wait for the "perfect" moment or setup. Just start, learn, and improve as you go.

  2. Ditch perfectionism: Embrace the imperfections. Your early episodes might be a little rough around the edges, but that's okay. Authenticity and passion shine through, even with a few stumbles.

  3. Podcasting is a resume booster: Podcasting can open doors you never imagined. It showcases your expertise, communication skills, and personality. It can lead to new opportunities, collaborations, and even paid gigs.

  4. Upgrade equipment over time: You don't need the fanciest gear to start, but invest in better equipment as you grow. Quality audio enhances the listening experience and makes your podcast more professional.

  5. Study copywriting and storytelling: Captivating your audience goes beyond having great content. Learn the art of copywriting and storytelling to craft compelling episode titles, descriptions, and narratives.

  6. If an idea works, do it again: Don't be afraid to repeat successful formats, themes, or segments. If your audience loves it, give them more of what they want.

  7. Get A+ guests: Interviewing experts in your field not only boosts your credibility but also provides a wealth of knowledge for you and your listeners. Build relationships with your guests and tap into their expertise.

Podcasting has been an incredible journey of learning, growth, and connection. I'm excited to see where it takes me next. If you're thinking about starting a podcast, take the leap! You won't regret it.
